Spotlight on a Website (4): Spotify

OK, Spotify is not a website as such although it does have a site. According to Wikipedia "Spotify is a proprietary peer-to-peer music streaming service and application software from a Swedish based company. It allows instant listening to specific tracks or albums, with virtually no buffering delay".
At present it is only available in the Scandinavian countries and a few others including Great Britain. It is scheduled to become available in the US during 2011 but probably with no free version.
While writing this I am listening to Muddy Waters in the background. I also have Loudain Wainwright II lined up. I have the free version so get a few 30 second ad breaks every now and then.
You download an application (takes one minute) and it sits on your desktop and you get access to 10 million tracks which are being added to at the rate of 10,000 every day! The only exceptions I have found is no Beatles and no Dylan. In my 'library' I have everything by Elvis Presley, The Everly Brothers, Paul Simon, The Beach Boys, Tom Petty, The Grateful Dead and hundreds of other artists. I also have several thousand classical, folk, jazz and blues tracks but I can search and play any artist I can think of almost instantly.
You could try Spotify but don't know if the link works in all countries.

Hi Bazza. I'm the first one here!
This site would hit the spot, but, it's not available on this side of the Atlantic yet. Does it work like Pandora Radio?

Dear bazza,
How are you old chap? Ah yes Spotify, a most interesting musical application and an excellent product for removing those nasty, greasy zits....
And speaking of Loudain..I believe this might just bring back some old memories..
"You got yer
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
You got yer dead skunk in the middle of the road
Stinkin' to high Heaven!"
Cheerio old thing.
Your buddy, Gary :)

Damn it! Not in America? Well, I'm an American and I want it now! Right this second, for free, of course. ;)

It sounds like it would be great to have, especially with the no buffering thing going for it.

Snee person: I think Pandora is meant to be USA only but, as always with these things, there is apparently a way of getting it here. Last FM, which has some kind of affiliation with Spotify, is similar and this link leads to it.

Gary, how nice to hear from you. I'm not sure if you are a Spotify user or just wanted to get that joke in! Dead Skunk was probably his only UK hit but he recorded hundreds of great folk-type songs that are much better. Cheerio!

Kelly: Ah, the Gang of Two have commented together! Sorry if this post has been a tease for you but to compensate you have Britney Spears and Justin Beiber in the USA!

From the mysterious and sought-after Sir Tom Eagerly:
Bazza, you are something else; you tell all your nice, USA-based friends about a great service that they can't get. Have another barrel of beer dear boy. I know I will.
Bottoms Up. Oh do behave!

Hi Bazza, Thanks for the link. I have a technical question about linking in comments. What's the trick? I remember a discussion in one of your past comments, but have lost the info. I appreciate any "how to" guidance when you get the time. Sometimes, URL addresses are too long for comments. Now to press on the link. I'm in the mood for music while I immerse myself in the morning routine!

Oh too bad for me, but I'm patient, mostly. Thanks, just the same, for sharing :)

Snee: If you would like to email me at 'shamp123ATsky.com' I will forward you a very easy to understand email from Joanne Rose.
I spent some looking for the post on my blog but could not find it!
If you would rather not give your email address that's OK; I'll keep looking!

Sir Tom: You are a rascal sir! Think of it as some advance puiblicity for our North American friends.

dcrelief: I am sure your patience will be rewarded. When they first released it in the UK it was by invitation only. I had a friend in the music industry who got me in. I actually think it's worth paying £4.99 a month if there is to be no other option.
