Quiz Questions (12)

Here are four very mixed quiz questions just for fun! The picture above might help you with one of the answers.
1) Who was the ancient Greek goddess of Victory?
2) Who was the leader of the wolf pack in The Jungle Book?
3) Of which best-selling book is this the opening sentence?

Intelligent life on a planet comes of age when it first works out the reason for its own existence. If superior creatures from space ever visit earth, the first question they will ask, in order to assess the level of our civilization, is: "Have they discovered evolution yet?" 4) From which book was the name Starbuck taken and used by the coffee-shop chain?

Answers are now given in the comments!

I can answer the first two without even thinking about it.

1. Nike was the goddess of victory, and
2. Akela is the leader of the pack. (The Boys Scouts of America uses the story as part of their initiation. The Scouts promise to follow Akela, who is the Pack Leader, Den Leader, or adult in charge at any given moment.)

I have no idea about #3, and the only answer I have to #4 is that Starbuck was a character on the TV show Battlestar Gallactica. I'm sure there's a better answer though.

1. Nike?
2. Akela?
3. Pass?
4. Moby-Dick?

Dear bazza,
The only one I definitely know is "Starbuck", which is most definitely from Herman Melville's great American novel, "Moby Dick". Other than that, I would stab a guess at the third one being from "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". Other than that, I don't really know.
Still hoping that you and your loved ones had a Merry Christmas despite all, and here's to a happy and healthy New Year,
With Very Best Wishes,
David.

Alicia: You answered 1 and 2 with such confidence that you are obviously correct. Q3 was always going to be the hardest and Q4 is wrong! Thanks for having a go.

Masked One: As they used to say on 'Sale of the Century', are you asking or telling me?!

bazza said...

David: Thanks for that; Moby Dick is correct but number three is going to be the difficult one - even if you have read the book!

Hi bazza,
Okay, would answer number 3 possibly be the opening lines from The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins?
Take care and here's wishing you and your loved ones peace and positivity in 2011.
In kindness, Gary.

Gary: I am refraining on commenting on guesses for a few days; it's more fun!

Kerrie: Hooray for people who don't mind looking 'like a tube'!
You look like a tube, ha ha!
However, a good stab.....
A Happy New Year to all!

Totally fun quiz Bazza! My guess goes with Gary for number three, though I initially thought of the TV series "Heroes"(a little known American TV program that addresses evolution, genetics, human super powers and morality with a tinge of irony thrown in for good measure).

Have a healthy, happy new year celebration! The fun of blog world is that the new year celebration starts in Australia and circles around the globe so you just can't stop toasting!

Warm Regards to you and your family.

Look here Bazza old thing. You have to stop asking these bloody difficult questions; you are worse than the Inland Revenue and they got very upset when I got nought out of ten when they stated asking me questions, (but they never found the cash!)
Meanwhile dear boy Sir Tom is splashing a jolly decent vintage amagnac down his throat as a toast to you and your family including little Sonny-boy!
Happy New Year to you and yours from Sir Tom and that Lady Eagerly.

Snee: I'm glad you took the quiz in the right spirit (much like Sir Tom as it happens!)
All the best to you and yours for 2011.

Sir Tom: Thanks for your good wishes which I reciprocate. And thanks for ending my bad year with a laugh, as you so often do.

I have no idea what the answers are but since you've mentioned Starbucks, I have this sudden need for a cappuccino or latte from there. I love their coffee, man. Instead of trying to wrap my head around your questions, is it okay if I wish you and your family the best in the coming New Year instead?

Take care, Bazza :)

Kelly: Ha ha! I like that! Sod the questions; I'm talking to you from the future- it's 2011 here right now!
Thanks for the wishes and right back at you. Let's wish ourselves peace and health from now on.

In fact, I bet it's around 1:00 over there about now, aye? Don't worry. I'll catch up here in about 4 hours or a little less, Mr. Future Man.

lol

And what the hell is "SOD the questions?" Must be an English expression or something. Hahaha... I know. I'm just being a bastard now. Or then.

Sincerely, The Dude Still Living in 2010

Kelly: 'Sod' is a mild expletive and fairly inoffensive!

OK this is the definitive answer list:
Q1. The Greek goddess of Victory was Nike
Q2. The leader of the Wolfpack was Akela. Still used throughout the world for Cub Scout leaders!
Q3. The book in question is The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins.
Q4. Starbuck was the first mate in Moby Dick
Well done between you but nobody got them all so I win!
