Quiz Questions (18): Harder Christmas Quiz!

Christmas Cactus, Schlumbergera
(1) What story is set in Bedford Falls?

(2) Which is the only one of Santa's reindeer who is female?

(3) Which is the odd-one-out of these Christmas plants and why? I know there are often various possible answers to odd-one-out questions but in this one you need to be psychic and know which answer I have chosen! Hopefully it's the only possible answer.

  • (a) Poinsettia
  • (b) Christmas Cactus
  • (c) Mistletoe
  • (d) Holly
(4) What Christmas food is made from marsh-whorts?
Answers to be posted over the Christmas Holiday.
Meanwhile.........
Q What did the English teacher call Santa's helpers?
A Subordinate clauses
(Found in very expensive Christmas crackers from Fortnum & Masons, a posh London store. Allegedly.)

Hi bazza,
I am going to go for these answers;
1. The film "It`s a Wonderful Life" is set in Bedford Falls.
2. I am going for the "They are all female as they all have antlers and male reindeer lose their antlers in winter" answer, or I could have a punt on `Vixen`?
3. I am not quite sure on the plant, but I am going to say Mistletoe as this has to have a plant on which to grow and the others all grow on their own?
4. Marsh-Whorts are Cranberries, so I would have to say Cranberry sauce is made out of marsh-whorts.

John: Mixed results but yule (did you see what I did there?) have to look in over the holiday to find out which ones! Have a good one!

Without glancing over and looking at anyone's comment or going on the Internet, I'm going to be absolutely truthful with the answers here, Bazza. Here we go:

1) I don't know but I am familiar with the name. Something tells me it is a PLACE. :) 2) Blitzen? My second choice is Helen. 3) I think Christmas cactus is the odd one because I think I've seen a Christmas cactus and they thrive in the desert... Plus, they aren't used in any Christmas traditions or decoration. 4) I have absolutely no idea but I can't help but to think of Hogwarts Wizard Academy.

Your clever joke made me laugh until I piddled myself. Good thing I was naked. No wet clothing to deal with. You're right. This is a harder quiz. It made my lil' brain spring a leak. It's mighty wet around here now.

Kezza: OK, I hope you've dried out now! I like your thinking but all will be revealed at the weekend so you should excuse yourself from the Christmas dinner and check me out!

Bazza, my brain hurts. Please don't make me think so much.
Instead I am going to be enjoying a Romeo y Julieta, Cedros De Luxe No. 1 Cuban cigar and a bottle or four of Bocq Gauloise Christmas Ale, brewed in Belgium you know, which has a dark rich sweet flavour with hints of corriander liquorice and spice. Lovely. Have an excellent Yuletide young Bazza!

1 "It's a wonderful life"
2 Reindeer are female; Rudolph I'm thinking (oh boy) is the male.
3 Mistletoe has round leaves; the others have pointed leaves. OR Poinsettia and Mistletoe are poisonous and Cactus is not.
4 Used to make cranberry sauce.

Meanwhile: Kibbler elves?

Merry Christmas Bazza!

Sir Tom: Thank you Sir Tom, you too. Enjoy the booze and cigars.

dcrelief: Now I'm confused; your name appeared as 'DC~RELIEF' in your previous comment.
Interesting answers. All will be revealed soon!
Enjoy the festive season!

Hi Bazza! Well, a quiz with English refs. Except for the plant one I wouldn't have a clue and that's probably wrong. I would have said pointsettia.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks for visiting my blog today!

Hey bazza,
Not much point answering these questions now that the outcome will soon be revealed.
And besides, I'm dazzled by the genius that is Sir Tom Eagerly.
Have a good one, old boy!

Dear bazza,
Afraid I knew none of these except the first one, which has already been answered anyway. But, I'm sure that, once again, you will be impressed by my honesty!
Wishing you a very happy Christmas and wonderful 2012,
David.

Gary: Huh! That's a lame excuse for not having a go - all the previous answers might be wrong!
But I can understand how Sir Tom's genius has overwhelmed you.
Personally, I find it underwhelming!
Chin chin!

Denise: Hi there. I'm afraid you will have to look back to find the answers later. Better put that in your diary!
Have a good Christmas.

David: Yes David; knocked-out by your honesty. Thank you for not Googling it!

Here are the complete answers which were all got except the real odd-one-out!
(1) 'It's a Wonderful Life' is indeed set in Bedford Falls.
(2) Some interesting and factual answers here. It's true that female reindeer also have antlers (but they are shed). The only female member of Santa's team is Vixen!
(3) Some ingenious (and probably correct) answers were given but my answer is that Christmas Cactus is the only one that isn't poisonous.
(4) Marsh-whorts are indeed Cranberries
Well done everyone for some clever and amusing answers! I hope you enjoy smoking your cigars, wearing you new knitwear and perfume and playing with your new Lego over the next few days.
