Quiz Question (11): Mother Goose

(I have recycled this question from my previous blog in 2006, because it created a lot of interest at the time. It would therefore be easy to cheat by looking at that blog and it would be easy to find the answer by Googling these lines anyway. But you wouldn't do that, would you?)

Can you complete this children's rhyme with the 'literary' last line?

Vintery, mintery, cutery, corn,
Apple seed and apple thorn;
Wire, briar, limber lock,
Three geese in a flock.
One flew east,
And one flew west,
And .......?

In the unlikely event of no-one getting the correct answer I will post it in the comments in a few days!

Howdy bazza,
Suddenly, I'm thinking about a certain movie with Jack Nicholson, in it....

Gary and Joanne: Doh! Have I made it too easy again?

Haven't got the faintest notion old boy. All a bit above my head I'm sad to say. Never mind, onwards and upwards eh?

Me thinkest you have, bazza! (note exclamation mark for dramatic impact).
I thought it would not be cricket, old chap, if I gave away the answer in the very first comment.
I'm outta' here....:-)

Dear bazza,
It seems you made it too easy again and Gary has got in there before me.
However, do I get extra points for knowing that said Jack Nicholson movie ("One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest") was originally a novel by Ken Kesey, that the movie was directed by Milos Forman and actually produced by one Michael Douglas.
Maybe not!
Yours with All the Best,
David.

Sir Tom; Well thanks for looking in anyway Sir Tom. You will, no doubt, be kicking yourself shortly.

Gary: How noble of you sir.

David: Ah, the movie expert again!
I enjoy setting these questions but it's really difficult to pitch the level just right. A tougher one next time for sure!
You can award your self maximum points David.

I’m with Sir Tom on this one, I’m afraid (though, not literally). Haven’t got a clue.

I know! I know!

Even though I did not know that the above-mentioned movie title came from a nursery rhyme, and
Even though I have never heard that nursery rhyme,
There really was only one obvious answer!

bazza said...

Mask: I presume you know now, having read the previous answers? Anyway I will be giving the exact answer later on!

Alicia: Well guessed. I think one either 'see's' it at once or not at all!

Just to make it perfectly clear the answer is:
'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' which Ken Kesey used as the title for his wonderful book and subsequent film.

Hi Bazza,
Thank goodness I've arrived slightly late to let our birdie friends honk out their clever answers, for I must admit....

Oh dear,
I fear,
I've failed this test,
even though I tried my best.

I enjoyed this challenge question...after all, who can resist a silly goose.

The Snee: Your verse is better than the Mother Goose one!
Perhaps you've discovered a new previously hidden talent.
By popular consensus the next quiz question is going to be much harder!

Damn it! I'm too late in responding to this quiz. But, to be honest, I was thinking that the word 'nest' was going to be in there somewhere.

Like:

And the other goose stayed in the nest

Because he was mentally impaired

And thus began to drool

Before joining all the other geese

In their Extra Special School
-------------------------
Gosh, that was just too terrific, eh?

Too easy! Look at all these clever people who got here before me. But I knew the answer, honestly and truly I did!

Hello Joanne, I believe you! I suppose it's one of those questions that you either know at once or not at all.
I am now starting to concoct my next devilish literary question which won't be this easy!

bazza said...

Kelly: Wow! That's right up there alongside Mother Goose.
If you had a day job I would say 'don't give it up'!
