Saucy British Seaside Postcards (2)

While scrolling through some of the stats for this Blog, I noticed that one of the most popular posts was one in 2010 about saucy British seaside postcards. It's a tradition that is still going strong! So I have decided, for no good reason, to show some more. To see the original post click HERE.

The French, of course, have a different perspective on this topic!

I'm listening to my favourite Beatles song
Strawberry Fields ForeverSee if you can hear the point where two different versions of the song were brilliantly spliced together by George Martin and the studio engineers.Listen by clicking here.

This explains how Benny Hill was spawned!

I think it does! He is straight out of that tradition Jim.

Hi Bazza - those postcards are such fun to see ... and as you say they're still around - especially here on the south coast. Excellent comment by Parnassus about Bennie Hill - he was hilarious ... cheers Hilary

Hilary: Some of those cards are very 'near the knuckle' but one would have to be quite prudish to take offence. If you looked at the previous post you would have seen some rude and funny cards!

These are great, Bazza, and fun to see.

Where the play on words was clever, the cards are still well worth looking at today eg "do you like Kipling?" and "my little Willie". Clever word-based humour never goes out of date.

Thanks Arleen. This is a very British phenomenon!

Hels: I agree with your comment. You may have noticed that I am a fan of puns, one-liners and "esprit de l'escalier" remarks!

Hahahahaha I love all this kind of thing, they totally crack me up, as does your new avatar. I take it you've watched Breaking Bad too then? It's literally my favourite drama series of all time. Suits you sir!

AC: Yeah, I love those cards too! And I love Breaking Bad - that's actually a picture of me underneath the disguise.

Ooohhh, Bazza!

As soon as I go to your comment section, all your photos vanish. Brings up your blog again so I can see the photos. Ah yes, I've just been transported to Blackpool hell!

Have fun in those Strawberry Fields, Bazza, old chap!

Gary: Ooooh, young man! How very dare you! I hope none of my wife's relatives in Blackpool see this - but it's a dump.....

These old post cards are a hoot. I remember seeing many like that in the shops along the boardwalk when I vacationed at the beach in the '50s. The U.S. versions were very similar to the ones you showed. Funny never goes out of style.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. It's my pleasure to return the favor. Matter of face, I'm gonna sign up as your newest groupie. :)

It was the plan to sign up as a follower, anyway. I keep getting an error message. I'll have to try try try again later.

Hi Susan. Thanks for looking in. I like the idea of Blog Groupies! I will check out the follower situation.

That was a delight post, great play of words too and nice of you to share. Greetings!

Hi Blogoratti. Thanks for visiting and your kind words. I had a look at your Blog (I always do that before responding to a new commentator!). It looks really useful and I like the fact that, like me, you always link to a piece of music that you listen to. Although I enjoyed the Eric Dolphy piece, our tastes are very different!

No problem with the follower situation. The third or fourth time I tried it was the charm. :)

I'm glad that you persisted Susan!
