Wreckless Eric

When the punk rock explosion in the USA, the UK and Australia subsided in the late 1970s a second wave of so-called 'post-punk' or 'new wave' acts emerged.
Wreckless Eric in the 1970s
Among these was the English singer Eric Goulden, known as Wreckless Eric. He made a few interesting albums and singles but for me two singles are outstanding.
Released on Stiff Records, they are, the much-acclaimed:
and Hit and Miss Judy (1979)
Click the titles to hear the songs (best played loudly!)
A little more recently!
And if you would like to hear it sung in a Scottish accent, listen to the Proclaimers

What a cute little song, "Whole Wide World" is. I enojoy the Proclaimers just a bit more, Bazza!

Hi Dixie. I think one has to be 'of a certain' age to like this kind of music. I put the Proclaimers link in because I like it too - but I prefer Eric.
Have a great weekend!

I have never heard of this artist but I did enjoy "Whole Wide World" when I clicked it on. The fact that I could hear and understand every word was a definite plus.

That made me laugh Arleen because I remember my Dad saying the same thing about the Beatles!

Hi Bazza - I've never heard of him .. but perhaps I'd better have a quick listen! Not being a music fundi - doesn't help. I enjoy music though ... I'll have a listen - cheers Hilary

I remember 'Whole Wide World', it's a cracker, but Hit and Miss Judy was a new one for me. Hahahaha, the lyrics are hilarious. He's an entertainer for sure!

Typical post-punk kind of stuff really. Some of it was top notch!

Sheesh, bazza!

Rather worryingly, I remember those songs and Eric!

Where is Sir Tom?

Gary

Hi Gary. Sir Tom is probably trying to get into his punk rocker outfit!

I'm wondering what kind of reckless things Wreckless Eric did to earn his name.

bazza said...

I don't know Sherry but he doesn't look so reckless now does he? And, as you noticed, he couldn't spell!

Hi Bazza - good to see you - and yes I'm trying shorter now ... and not so convoluted ... lots about my trip coming up - but with interludes into India, food, and neolithic eras ...

Proclaimers - I'd no idea about them - but I do love their 500 miles ... and then this song - The whole wide world ... they have a fun take on their songs .. and no wonder they're still singing ... not sure about their faces on my screen and in my face!! But I'm sure they'd blanch at mine too ... cheers Hilary

Hi Hilary. It seems that there is a lot to look forward to at your Blog! I do like The Proclaimers but there's something I find odd about them; they seem to be a bit aggressive, but maybe that's what makes their music so good.
