It's a while since I posted a quiz so here is a new selection of harder Christmas questions. Cheating is definitely allowed! I wish all readers of this Blog a peaceful holiday season and prosperous new year!
Over 1,000 Santas took part in a Charity Run in Bristol, England last weekend. Your correspondent was there! |
1) The Latin word meaning 'coming' (oh, behave!) gave us what term which still refers to the coming Christmas period?
2) In which European language does 'Nadolig
Llawen' mean Merry Christmas?
3) Who composed the Lieutenant Kijé orchestral
suite, part of which is a familiar piece of Christmas music?
4) In which fictional place was it "always winter
but never Christmas"?
5) In which continent did turkeys originate.....? (In the UK we don't celebrate Thanksgiving but, traditionally, eat turkey at Christmas.)
6).....and why are they so-called?

I got every single one right thanks to some creative research on the web *winks*.
Have this back as a Christmas pressie, wishing you and yours a lovely time during the festivities bazza :D
Snowball
By Shel Silverstein.
I made myself a snowball,
As perfect as could be,
I thought I'd keep it as a pet,
And let it sleep with me.
I made it some pajamas,
And a pillow for its head,
Then last night it ran away,
But first - it wet the bed!

I'd have to research all of those to get the answers. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Yes, I have to do some research too it appears!
Here's wishing you and yours a very Happy Christmas, Bazza :)
I will look up the answers tomorrow, but now I just want to wish you a wonderful holiday and all the blessings of love and family that the season can bring.
AC: I really like the work of Shel Silverstein. He wrote lots of great songs for Dr Hook including Sylvia's Mother. That's a lovely pressie. Thank you!
Enjoy the holiday.
Sherry: Thanks Sherry; I wish you all the best for the holiday season!
Wendy: Thanks for visiting - have a good one!
Arleen: Thanks for your kind wishes and all the best to you and yours!
A great project over the next few very cold and wintry days. But sadly, I have to look all of them up. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Okay - the Santa Charity run is the best! for the rest of the post...I seriously cheated after I could only get three answers.
1- Advent(the easy one)
2- Welsh
3- Sergei Prokofiev (yes, I knew this one)
4- Narnia(knew this one)
5- North American continent (not a clue)
6- "But the birds did not come directly from the New World to England; rather, they came via merchant ships from the eastern Mediterranean Sea. Those merchants were called “Turkey merchant” as much the area was part of the Turkish Empire at the time. Purchasers of the birds back home in England thought the fowl came from the area, hence the name “Turkey birds” or, soon thereafter, “turkeys.” (Hijacked the entire quote)
Nice quiz!!
Enjoy the children and time off for that! Happy New Year!
Natasha: Thank you - and the same to you! I will post the answers sometime over the holiday .
Dixie: At this stage I couldn't possibly comment!
Hi bazza,
Of course, I knew all the answers without using the internet, such is the gargantuan capacity of my enormous and encyclopaedic brain! Well, when I say "all", what I really mean is three!
Thanks bazza, and I hope you and your family have a great Christmas and very happy New Year.
Best Wishes,
David.
Hi Bazza,
