London Monopoly (5): Euston Road

Euston Road runs north of central London, south of Regent's Park and is part of the A501, a route that leads west and out of the metropolis. It connects Kings Cross and Euston Square underground stations. The best thing on Euston Road is at number 96; the British Library.
The British Library
It is the world's largest library and often holds wonderful exhibitions and lectures. Anyone can get a readers membership card and most of what they offer is free. There is a huge on-line presence too. I used to use the Business Section a lot; they have Mintel Reports and other documents that you don't find anywhere else (unless you want to pay!). The current exhibition is Royal Manuscripts: The Genius of Illumination. You can check it out here.

Hi bazza,
Ah you bring back more memories of my times in that area and notably, the British Library. Me thinks it's high time I made a triumphant return to London.
Those Royal Manuscripts and the vivid imagery colours are spectacular. Thanks for the link.
All the best,
Gary

Gary: Thanks Gazza. I am sure I will eventually post a Monopoly location that you are not familiar with; maybe Park Lane?

The sensational Sir Tom Eagerly says:
Well Bazza, old boy, I do know the Euston Road quite well but I have never been tempted by the library.
Now, at 190 Euston Road is the Euston Tap - a nice little pub though a bit pricey.
That's the kind of information your readers will want to know about Bazza. Not some Library or other.
Cheers!

Sir Tom: Well I know it's the kind of information that you would want. That's for sure. Perhaps I will look out for you on my next visit to the area. On second thoughts.....

I checked out that illumination video on your link and read about the exhibit going in the The world's Largest Library. Pretty interesting stuff. Love the colors and styles of the artwork they showcased on the site.

On a side note: Nice to see you back in the blogging world. Hope you enjoyed your short break, bazza.

I still haven't been to the library....must check it out!

In my opinion the second best thing on the Euston Road is the Royal Academy of Music.

At one time I lived in a squat near the Euston Road.....I think there were about 200 of us living in adjacent properties. There was no heating or bedding and it was January....I slept on a piece of cardboard...it's hard to believe it now!

Hi bazza,
Ah, Euston Road, which I have never been to. And, of course, the lovely British Library, which I've never been to either. I think I should definitely try to get out more!
Very Best Wishes,
David.

Kezza: Yes, it looks great doesn't it. I have not seen that exhibition but I would like to; it's not one of the free ones.
I've been very busy lately but I always come back to the blog and my blogging pals!

Rob: You were a hippy?! I suppose you were a music student.
Sorry I didn't mention the Academy!

David: You are excused David. It's not just up the road from you is it?
I haven't been to any of the potteries towns (except by through train).
The Euston Road is unremarkable but the British Library is well worth a day of your life!

Love the building's design! Thank you for the link. If I get to England I'll have this on my list of great things to see.
I'm off to find a satellite image; much appreciated, Bazza.

dcrelief: I should point out that the British Library is the world's largest in terms of the number of items it holds - not necessarily the size of the building.
If you do get to England there is plenty to see of course but the library is popular with tourists.
