The Pedant's Revolt
Something different, made using Microsoft Paint:

Hello Bazza, Ha ha, this is perfect! I've almost given up the hope of seeing or hearing correct English from any recent source. By the way, I admire you for getting such good results out of Paint. I long ago switched to another free program called Paint.net, which to me at least is more intuitive. --Jim
This morning, at my espresso bar, I allowed two "likes" from a teenager before I explained that "like" is only a synonym for "love" or "similar to". His response? "Bloody old pedant!!!"
Jim: My biggest bugbear is the your/you're dichotomy. However, language is a dynamic ever-changing thing and I feel that as long as a clear sense of what one wants to say is observed, then I can tolerate it!
Well done on the use of 'Paint' ... and love the cartoon produced with the 'pedantic copy' ... clever! Hels' comment is typical of life now ... always an answer back! He sounded quite intelligent though ... Cheers Hilary
Hilary: I use Paint a lot and so it's no great shakes for me! Although teenagers can be quite rude I wouldn't want to take away their free-spirited attitudes.
As a bit of a fuddy-duddy pedant, I love your rendering with Paint. Very clever! One of these days, I'll have to explore how to use one of those creative-type programs. Looks like fun!
Susan: Paint is the free Microsoft programme that comes with Windows and it's much easier than some others. I use it alongside the Snipping Tool which turns whatever is on screen (or a selected part) into a jpeg!
Hahahaha love the picture; as I'm in mid edit of a book at present with someone I can attest to the frustrations incurred with pedantry, but it's worth it in the long run, and though our language does change and evolve, I still think there are many fine elements to the English language that shouldn't be lost.
